Starting at 4:30 PM, the students at Peter Paul Development Center will celebrate Motown with both songs and skits.
Though Motown began in Detroit, its impact was felt all over the world–and it continues to be felt. The success of the record label’s signature sound in all markets made it a major player in popular music’s racial integration.
To quote Smokey Robinson on the appeal of the Motown Sound:
Listen, the Motown sound to me is not an audible sound. It’s spiritual, and it comes from the people that make it happen.
PPDC’s performance will celebrate the history of what was both a musical and cultural movement.
